Poverty in South Africa

Poverty statistics in South Africa speak for themselves. Just by coming on holiday or a business trip you will be able to see the two different extremes of rich and poor. On one end of the scale there are miles and miles of shacks as you will see when you drive from the airport towards your destination, but when you reach your vacation spot or the place where your host has set you up it will definitely not be anywhere near a shack.

The houses of the rich are in the suburbs and some in sought after spots with swimming pools, tennis courts and views overlooking mountains and the whole of the city. I don’t think the rich have any poverty-stricken thoughts going across their minds.

People from overseas in Ireland and England have begun building houses for people in the townships to improve the situation with poverty in South Africa. This is their thought of a vacation. They would spend some time in sunny South Africa, but they would also build houses for people that can’t support themselves on a voluntary basis and would have fun at the same time. People who do this are not rich. They just have a good heart.

I’m wondering to myself how many people who are living in mansions in the suburbs would do the same thing or would even donate at some point in their life. The argument might be that they have worked for everything that they have achieved in life, but what is the point if you are so wealthy, but there is no joy in your life. South Africa and poverty is something that needs to be dealt with because it is growing everyday.

Child poverty in South Africa has become worse over the years. It is never a good thing to see children begging at traffic lights, but that is how bad the problems are in their lives.
