If you are interested in alternative energy then you have probably been reading up on power inverter technology. There are hundreds of different power inverters on the market today. The huge selection that consumers have to choose from can make choosing the right power inverter quite difficult. One thing is for sure, you get what you pay for when you buy a power inverter. If you buy a power inverter from your local big box department store, it is likely to be if quite cheaply made and will not hold up to the rigors of an alternative energy system.
There are three types of power that can be produced by power inverters that you should be aware of. The first type of 12v power inverter will output what is called square sine wave power. Only the lowest quality power inverters produce square sine wave power. You would be wise to steer clear of any power inverter that produces this type of electricity. Most electronic devices will have problems running on this type of power inverter.
The next type of power inverter produces modified sine wave power. This is the type of power that is produced by probably about 90% of all power inverters. A modified sine wave power inverter of will power most electronic devices without a problem.
The last type of power inverter produces what is called pure sine wave power. Pure sign with power is the cleanest and purest form of power produced by a power inverter. This most closely resembles the power that you receive from the electric company to your home. Some sensitive electronic devices will only work with pure sine wave inverters.
In the past, pure sine wave inverters were very expensive and there were only a handful of models available. Power inverter technology is becoming more and more affordable and consequently more manufacturers are making affordable pure sine wave power inverters. You would be best off buying a pure sign wavve power inverter if you can afford it. You stand a much less chance of having a problem running your electronic devices with a pure sine wave power inverter.
